Mymatejoechip, thanks for your comment. You are right -- I think we all can be ethical omnivores. But because our planet is being harmed at a rate that is very destructive, we cannot sit back and continue to let our "genetically hard wire" habits to control us. The beauty of the human is that we have the ability to look at our actions and change them. It was natural at one point to excrete our bodily wastes without thought but now we use toilets. Just saying. And GM is going to cause us more problems not answers.

We are omnivores, not herbivores, it is genetically hard wired. The aim is to be an ethical omnivore. Now that we will be able to harvest meat from living animals thanks to GM, the solution is here.

That's pretty cool that we have "sniffers" who can sniff out the presence of oil in seafood. Very heroic bionic sniffers! I could never do it though haha. It is interesting that there could still be contaminates in the seafood....although I'm not surprised. I agree, let the water replenish the little critters!

I hope the administrators make the right decision, 'cause the toxin build-up will happen over a number of years and by the time the cause of the heavy metal poisoning is ascertained, it might be too late.
My friend and I were just talking about this very subject today. We both love seafood and know the value of eating it, but are concerned about the safety of consuming the things we love that come from the sea. It is a big concern. Not sure what to do about it. Especially after I viewed a documentary that shows how much pollutants are being thrown into our oceans on a daily basis.

We try to eat fish at least twice a week--sometimes three. And my family really loves shrimp. I make scampi with rice when I need something quick. Don't want to give that up.

Fascinating - they can sniff it and get it right that often?? Still, I really wouldn't want to be eating seafood right now. It just seems like a bit of an unnecessary risk.
